The Twitter account for Fort Bragg has been deleted after a series of explicit posts Wednesday, which were originally claimed to be the work of a hacker.
The tweets began about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when the verified Army account replied to another Twitter user, who featured adult content on their page. User @Quinnfinite10 tweeted that she got complaints about her pubic hair on her OnlyFans page. The Fort Bragg account tweeted back in her defense.
“He’s lost and doesn’t know a good thing when it’s staring him in the eyes, or tickling his nose in this case,” the Fort Bragg tweet read.
The account for Fort Bragg, which houses the U.S. Army’s XVIII Airborne Corps and Special Operations Command, also responded to an image featuring partial nudity by the same user.
Within an hour, the admins for the military page tweeted an apology.
“As many of you may know, there were a string of explicit Tweets from our account this afternoon. This was not the work of our admins. Our account was hacked,” read the tweet. “We apologize to our followers. We have secured our account and looking into the matter.”
Shortly after that message, the account was deleted.
As of Thursday morning, Fort Bragg spokesman Col. Joe Buccino revealed the tweets were not the work of a hacker, and the person responsible will be reprimanded, according to Washington Post reporter Alex Horton.
“An administrator for the account identified himself as the source of the tweets. Appropriate action is underway. The Fort Bragg account will be restored in the coming days,” Buccino said.
The owner of the @Quinnfinite account told Business Insider that she was disappointed the tweets were removed rather than “celebrated the way they deserve.” She also said she amassed several new Twitter followers from the controversy.
“This may have been a bold move for Fort Bragg, but I hope the original poster still follows me on their personal account,” she told Business Insider. “They seem lovely.”
Several on Twitter provided commentary on the incident, with some making light of the hacking claims and the tweets.
