A man wanted on a murder charge stemming from a shooting in New Jersey was arrested at a Smyrna hotel on Monday, bringing an end to a two-month manhunt.

Dion M. Johnson, 38, had been on the run since early October after Darrell McKoy, also 38, was shot to death outside his home in Linden, New Jersey, according to police.

Investigators said the shooting occurred about 12:45 p.m. Oct. 5. McKoy was taken to a hospital but died about 45 minutes later.

It’s still unclear what prompted the incident, but detectives were able to identify Johnson as the shooter and offer a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture, authorities said.

He was arrested in Smyrna on Monday by U.S. marshals, agency spokesman Frank Lempka told AJC.com. Authorities said Johnson tried escaping out of a back window of his hotel but was taken into custody without incident.

He faces one count of murder and two weapons charges, New Jersey officials said in a news release. He remains held in Cobb County as he awaits extradition.
