A California woman arrested on charges of shooting a man in a South San Jose Costco parking lot Wednesday was once romantically involved with him, the Mercury News reported.

Nori Tejero, 44, remained with the wounded man until officers took her into custody, police said. She was booked into the Elmwood Correctional Facility women’s jail and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, jail records show. She was being held on $25,000 bond.

Police said a motive for the shooting remained unclear Thursday.

The shooting occurred at 12:34 p.m. in front of the warehouse store in South San Jose, police said. Police said Tejero encountered the man, whom witnesses described as a Costco employee, as he was walking into the parking lot. Tejero then pulled out a handgun and shot the man in the leg, police said.

Police arrested Tejero, and the man was taken to a hospital and was treated for what police described as non-life threatening injuries.

The store’s management and a spokesman at Costco’s corporate office declined comment, the Mercury News reported.
