North Georgia has reached the “sweet spot” for weather at the beginning of fall, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
An extension of the nice weather conditions from over the weekend, humidity and rain chances are low, and temperatures are mild. Add in some sunshine, and it makes for a comfortable Monday forecast, Monahan said.
“We’re going to keep this rolling through most of the week,” he said. “Good weather all the way through Friday, and probably through the weekend as well. We’re going to stay nice and dry across North Georgia.”
With low 60s in Atlanta and 50s outside the Perimeter, Monahan said Monday morning is experiencing “light jacket weather.” The chill in the air won’t stick around all day, but afternoon highs in the low 80s are pretty typical of this time of year, he said.
“A little cool out there this morning, but with the sunshine we’re going to warm up steadily from the 50s, where a lot of us start now, into the 60s, 70s and into the low 80s for highs for most of us later this afternoon,” he said.
According to Channel 2, the northeast Georgia mountains will stay just short of the 80s, but everywhere else should top out between 80 and 85 degrees. Atlanta’s projected high is 83.
More of the same is in the forecast for Tuesday, and Wednesday should be slightly warmer with a projected high of 86. Monahan said North Georgia is not done quite with summer temperatures and will slowly heat up again, reaching the upper 80s by Thursday.
“But that’s not going to come with the mugginess and the humidity,” he said. “It’s still going to be pretty dry and comfortable on Thursday, even though it does get a bit on the hot side.”

Traffic conditions are “so far, so good around town” at the start of the Monday morning commute, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. There are no major delays inside the Perimeter, although volume is building on all metro Atlanta interstates at 6:30 a.m.
On the Southside, there are delays on I-75 South while roadwork is blocking two left lanes at the I-675 interchange, the Traffic Center reported. The jam is not in the rush hour direction.
Those headed south through Clayton and Henry counties can take I-675 until construction clears, according to the Traffic Center.
