The first day of the workweek will be nice, with warm and relatively dry conditions in the forecast Monday.

“Yesterday was beautiful, Tuesday will be beautiful, and today, we will be pretty good, too,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

The morning is off to a comfortable start. Temperatures are in the 70s in metro Atlanta. In other parts of North Georgia, things are even cooler, with temps in the mid-60s.

It’ll get hotter later in the day, as temperatures climb toward the 90-degree high. However, temperatures won’t make it out of the 80s after Tuesday due to a cold front working its way through the state, Monahan said.

“Usually this is the time of year when we start to see those first cold fronts come through,” he said. “We’ve got one close to us.”

The drier air will tamp down humidity, according to Channel 2. That’s good news for the droves of students across metro Atlanta who are beginning a new school year Monday.

Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb and Henry counties are starting the school year remotely, but Monahan said there are good opportunities for at-home recess on the first day of classes. Fayette County is offering a combination of in-person and virtual options.

You’ll want to get outside early in the day, though, as rain is expected later in the afternoon. The chance of rain is about 30%.

Most of North Georgia will stay relatively dry, according to Monahan. However, metro Atlanta could see see isolated storms and pop-up showers.

“The best time for an at-home recess is until about 1 p.m.,” he said. “After that, no promises.”
