Monday will be dry but quite a bit cooler as a cold front continues its path across North Georgia, according to Channel 2 Action News.
The front arrived overnight and is already sending temperatures down into the 40s in the northwest corner of the state. Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said temperatures will continue to fall throughout the morning as the weather system passes by to the south.
It won’t mean rain, however. Monahan said North Georgia’s rain chances won’t increase until clouds fill in Wednesday.
“The first couple of days are the best couple of days this week, in the low 60s,” he said. “We’re warming up and getting wetter into the end of the week.”
Metro Atlanta should end up about 10 degrees lower Monday than on Sunday afternoon, according to Channel 2. Monahan predicts a high of 62 degrees.
“Just have that jacket, that sweatshirt all day long,” he said. “It’s going to be a lot cooler than it was yesterday.”
Monday morning is starting off windy with gusts up to 20 mph ushering in the cooler, drier air. There will be lots of sunshine in store for the afternoon, Monahan said, and the sky should stay mainly clear overnight.
That will mean an even chillier start Tuesday, he said. Atlanta is expected to bottom out at 41 degrees, but Monahan said some suburbs will be in the 30s.
“Tomorrow, though, clouds are increasing,” he said. “That’s going to lead to a better chance of rain Wednesday and also Thanksgiving Day.”
Wednesday’s 30% chance of rain is likely to hold off until the afternoon, which could affect plans for those traveling for Thanksgiving. Monahan is predicting a 40% chance for the big day Thursday.
“There are going to be some showers around on Thanksgiving Day, but most of those are going to come in the morning,” he said. “The afternoon should turn a little bit drier for us across North Georgia.”

Rain chances hold on into the evening for the Southside, however. By 5 p.m., Monahan expects it will be dry for the mountains and most of metro Atlanta with some scattered showers remaining to the south.
The showers will last into the weekend, he said. Friday also has a 40% chance of a shower, and rain chances increase to 60% Saturday and Sunday, according to Channel 2.

It appears Thanksgiving travel has started early as there are extra delays Monday morning at the main security checkpoint at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Those delays do not translate to metro Atlanta interstates, however.
The morning drive is lighter than normal, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Early trip times are still looking good on all major interstates, the Traffic Center reported at 6 a.m.
