One week after a Cobb County father allegedly killed his 8-month-old son in drug-related crash, the baby’s mother was also charged, arrest records show.

Wykenia Lashea Harris, 30, of a Marietta address, was arrested Saturday afternoon at WellStar Kennestone Hospital and charged with three counts of second-degree child cruelty and second-degree vehicular homicide, according to Cobb County jail records.

On Feb. 15, Harris' infant son was killed in a wrong-way crash on Windy Hill Road at South Cobb Drive in Smyrna. Investigators believe Darren Curry, 31, was under the influence of drugs when he crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with another vehicle, police previously said.

The crash killed Curry’s and Harris’ 8-month-old baby and injured two other children, ages 3 and 7, police said. Curry, Harris and the driver of another car were also injured in the crash.

Curry was later arrested and charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, DUI and several other charges related to the crash. Smyrna police said none of the three children was properly restrained, arrest warrants state.

“The 8-month old male was placed in a toddler-sized child safety seat that was facing forward, not anchored to the vehicle, and not utilizing the shoulder harnesses,” Harris’ arrest warrant states.

A 3-year-old boy in the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu sustained a ruptured bowel in the wreck, and a 7-year-old boy suffered a fractured clavicle and a seatbelt burn, according to police.

“The 3-year-old male was placed on a booster seat, which was not appropriate for his height and weight, and only utilized the waist harness of the vehicle,” Harris’ arrest warrant states. “The shoulder harness was placed behind his back.”

The 7-year-old was using the car’s waist and shoulder harness at the time of the crash, police said.

Harris was released late Saturday after posting $25,000 bond. Curry was being held without bond Monday night.
