Nonprofit helps find temporary homes for pets of deployed military members

A deployment is difficult on a military member who has to leave everything behind to protect and fight for our country.
When deployed, many worry about the homefront, but there's one member of the family that need care too - the pets of the men and women who are going off to serve.
Sometimes dogs and cats can live with other members of the family, but sometimes when a soldier, sailor or Marine is across the country from their family, what do they do with their pet?
That's where DoD steps in. Not the Department of Defense, but rather Dogs on Deployment.
Dogs on Deployment was founded in June 2011 and now stretches nationwide.
Volunteers take in pets of deployed military members until they come back to the states, WVEC reported.
Since its inception, more than 850 pets have found temporary homes.
And the service isn't just for cats or dogs.
Coordinator Myra Smith told WVEC, that they've paired up birds, snakes, fish and rabbits with temporary care.
