After leading investigators on a chase throughout the southeast, the man wanted in connection with a January shooting death was taken into custody Tuesday, Alpharetta police said.
U.S. Marshals, with assistance by the Fulton County Sheriffs Office, arrested Shane Demetrice Woods, 22, at an undisclosed location, George Gordon, spokesman for Alpharetta police, said Tuesday night.
“Woods was being tracked throughout the southeast by federal agents and had fled to other states,” Gordon said in an emailed press release. “He returned to Georgia and his location was determined and law enforcement moved in quickly to make the arrest.”
Woods will be charged with murder in the Jan. 28 death of Zachary Rose at a townhouse in the Whitestone Ridge community off Old Milton Parkway, according to police. Rose, of Canton, was shot in the abdomen and died after being transported to the hospital.
Woods is the second person charged in the case, but had eluded capture for more than six weeks.
Woods’ alleged accomplice, Jerad Terel Owens, 22, was arrested Jan. 30 by Sandy Springs police. Owens is charged with felony murder, armed robbery, burglary, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He remained Tuesday night in the Fulton County jail, where he was being held without bond.
Woods was transported to Alpharetta’s jail annex, Gordon said.
