Union City police are searching for a man they believe has information about a March shooting that killed one man and left two others injured at an apartment complex.
Isaiah Birts, 20, is wanted for questioning in a March 14 shooting at the Ashford Summit apartments that left Tacorey Knox dead, police said Monday in a Facebook post.
Lovaughn Samuels was wounded in the abdomen and Shaquille McPherson was wounded in the right thigh, according to a Union City police report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The surviving victims were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Responding officers were not able to speak with Samuels before he was taken to the hospital, but McPherson told police he was walking “and someone just started shooting,” the report said.
Knox was found slouched on a nearby staircase. He was declared dead at the scene.
Officers interviewed residents in the apartment near where Knox was found. A woman told police she heard gunshots, so she grabbed her kids and called 911. When the gunfire ended, she looked outside of her door and saw Knox’s body lying on the stairs.
Union City police took multiple witness statements at the apartment complex and impounded two cars as evidence, a black Nissan Rogue and a gray Kia Forte.
Though police did not provide details about how Birts might be connected to the shooting, they did say he “has information we can use to give the families closure.”
“Isaiah has many answers to a lot of questions we have in regards to this homicide case,” Union City police spokesman Officer Jerome Turner told the AJC.
Anyone with information about Birts’ whereabouts is asked to contact Capt. G. Hodgson at 770-515-7838 or Detective M. Miles at 770-515-7967 or mmiles@unioncityga.org.
