A Douglas County man pleaded not guilty Monday in the April stabbing death of his neighbor, who would have turned 66 Tuesday.

David Joshua Baltodano, 28, was arraigned on murder and robbery charges in the death of Don Peden, found dead in his home April 11, the District Attorney’s Office said.

Investigators have said Peden returned to his Yeager Road home and found Baltodano, who also lived on Yeager Road, attempting to steal his belongings. Peden, who retired after working for 30 years as an electrician for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, was a father, husband and grandfather.

Douglas County District Attorney David McDade said in June he is seeking the death penalty against Baltodano, who is being held without bond. Baltodano’s next court date has not yet been scheduled, a spokesman for the DA said Monday afternoon.
