Duluth police are on the scene of a deadly home invasion in which a man was killed and a woman and child were shot and wounded.
The incident happened Wednesday morning in the 2900 block of Summercrest Lane near Rogers Bridge Road and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.
A neighbor called police around 6:30 a.m., and responding officers found the victims inside the home, which showed signs of forced entry.
Duluth police Maj. Don Woodruff said that in addition to the man being shot and killed, a woman was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, and an 8-year-old girl was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, also with non-life threatening injuries.
Their names were not immediately available.
A 4-year-old child was found unharmed inside the house, according to Woodruff.
Woodruff said robbery is believed to be the motive.
The incident left neighbors shaken.
“Nothing’s really happened like this in the past,” said James Liberatore, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 25 years.
Neighbor Steve Croff also called it a “quiet neighborhood.”
“I’m sort of shocked at what’s going on,” Croff told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “It’s really bothering.”
Liberatore agreed, saying, “It makes you feel very insecure. It’s too close to home.”
