Cobb County police on Saturday identified an Acworth man as the suspect shot and killed by an officer responding to a report of a domestic dispute.

Officer Mike Bowman with Cobb police said 37-year-old Andrew Lambeth was shot by an officer and pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident happened in the 3500 block of Dallas-Acworth Highway in northwest Cobb County, not far from the Paulding County line.

Officers were called to a home due to an ongoing domestic dispute, Bowman said. Shots had been fired before officers arrived, Bowman said.

“Officer confronted the suspect and gave him verbal commands to put the weapon down,” Bowman said in an emailed statement.

But the suspect did not put the weapon down, according to police.

“(The) officer felt that his life was in jeopardy and had to resort to utilizing deadly force,” Bowman said late Friday. No officers were injured.

Staff writer J. Scott Trubey contributed to this report.
