Private workers resumed efforts Wednesday to pull a 55,000-pound truck from a sinkhole in Hall County, according to reports.
As of Tuesday evening, a towing company was working to bring the truck out of the 8-by-10-foot hole, which is in a parking lot at Wallis and Branch roads in Oakwood near I-985, the Gainesville Times reported.
Officials from Terry Towing planned to dig a larger hole, about 15 feet, so they could “drive” the truck out of the original hole, the Times reported. A deeper hole would allow workers to lower the front wheels, which were suspended in the air.
Hall County Fire Services crews left the scene about 4 p.m. Tuesday, spokesman Zachary Brackett said.
“The scene was left in the care of the recovery company and the property owners,” Brackett said.
Traffic in the area is back to normal, Oakwood police Sgt. Danny Sridej told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Wednesday.
Officials think an underground pipe may have eroded and the truck fell on top of it, Channel 2 Action News reported.
No injuries were reported.
The truck belongs to Canada-based Badger Daylighting company, which specializes in hydrovac trucks. It was carrying 1,600 gallons of water.
