A teen girl died Saturday after being pulled from a house fire in southwest Cobb County, officials said.

A second teen, a boy, was taken to the hospital.

A neighbor reported the fire in the 3000 block of Shadowridge Drive just before 12:30 p.m., Cobb County fire spokesman Lt. Dan Dupree said. Flames shot through the roof just before firefighters entered.

“We found one victim in a bedroom that was removed but unfortunately was not a viable patient,” Dupree said.

Cobb County police spokeswoman Officer Alicia Chilton said the deceased person was a girl. Her identity was not released.

The boy had already escaped the house when crews arrived, Dupree said. He sustained injuries that weren’t believed to be serious.

Dupree said a firefighter was also taken to the hospital as a precaution due to heat exposure.

By 2:30 p.m., the fire was under control, but firefighters were still battling hotspots.

Dupree said the investigation into the fire was “going to be very extensive.” An arson investigation is standard procedure when a death is involved, he said.

Cobb County police were also on the scene “conducting interviews to try to figure out what exactly happened,” Chilton said.
