Smyrna Mayor Derek Norton has signed an executive order extending the city’s actions to fight the spread of the coronavirus.

The city’s four executive orders signed by Norton to enforce social distancing practices are now in effect until April 24.

To curtail the spread of the coronavirus, Smyrna has limited restaurants, coffee shops and "other places where food is offered to the public" to take-out service.

Restaurants that have licenses to sell alcohol can sell beer and wine in unopened containers with take-out orders. This does not apply to orders for delivery.

Eateries in the city's designated Restaurant Districts where open containers are allowed can sell these beverages, but take-out customers must consume them within the district.

The city has also suspended disconnections for water service and waived late fees for unpaid customers for 60 days.

Smyrna has shuttered businesses that provide services requiring "direct contact" with customers. These businesses include, but aren't limited to, nail and hair salons, barber shops, spas, massage parlors and tattoo parlors.

While it’s keeping its parks open, the city has closed pavilions, gazebos, playground and fitness equipment at those gathering spots.

The city has also banned public gatherings and events that include 10 or more people and closed bars, night clubs, skating rinks, gyms, trampoline parks and private social clubs. Grocery stores and day cares are exempt from the executive order.
