Authorities are searching Lake Lanier for a man who disappeared after a collision between his jet ski and a bass boat.

About 8:30 p.m. Monday, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources responded to an area near Charleston Park in Forsyth County after learning the operator of the jet ski, Yakov D. Shteyman, 34, of Cumming, went into the lake and never resurfaced, agency spokesman Mark McKinnon said Tuesday.

Crews from the DNR and the Forsyth County Fire Department searched for Shteyman for more than six hours, according to Channel 2 Action News.

“Game wardens are utilizing sonar equipment again (Tuesday) and DNR Aviation will search from the air as well,” McKinnon said.

Channel 2 reported that Shteyman was not wearing a life jacket and that the two people on the bass boat were not injured.

DNR officials are investigating if speed or alcohol played a part in the crash, DNR Sgt. Lee Brown said.
