Skeletal remains found in Whitfield County may be those of a man missing from Floyd County, the Rome News-Tribune reported.

Gary Fingerle, 59, was last seen by family at an air show in October, the newspaper reported. His truck was found in November off Ga. 136 in Walker County.

The remains were found Sunday about 3 ½ miles from where the truck was seen, Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood said.

Foul play is not suspected, officials said.

Fingerle was an avid hiker, his ex-wife told the paper in an earlier interview.

“We hiked with the kids since they were big enough to walk,” Tomia Fingerle said. “So it is not strange that he would go out hiking a trail by himself.”

Authorities will send some of Fingerle’s dental records to the GBI crime lab to try to confirm the identity.
