When Ambassador Judith Varnai Shorer placed the 117,000th cookie on a mat in Atlanta Sunday, she completed the largest cookie mosaic flag in the world.

Shorer, the consul general of Israel to the Southeast, took part in the record-breaking attempt as a way to show support of Israel for its 70th Anniversary. The blue and white cookies spread out across the floor at Congregation Beth Jacob represented the nation's flag.

The attempt worked. Guinness World Records confirmed the Atlanta Jewish community’s 3,224-foot flag is the largest of its kind.

The event was for a good cause, too. Donations toward the project are going to three organizations: United Hatzalah, One Family, and special projects of the Jewish Agency.

Cookies for Israel, which accepted $10 donations for each cookie, has raised $103,512 out of a $200,000 goal.

And as to what happens to all those thousands of treats? They’ll be given to local schools and shelters in the area, said Lucas Dear, a spokesman for the ambassador’s office.

Meanwhile, another Atlanta attempt is pending approval. A group said in April they beat the Guinness World Record for the "largest gathering of people dressed as garden gnomes."

A Guinness spokeswoman confirmed they’ve received an application for the attempt, but couldn’t confirm Monday whether it was successful in achieving the record title.
