UPDATE: Ru San's passed a Tuesday re-inspection with a score of 100/A. No violations were noted.

ORIGINAL REPORT (Sept. 20): A Japanese restaurant failed two health inspections exactly one year apart, Fulton County records show.

The Ru San's location in Midtown scored a 58 following the Friday evaluation. Scores below 70 are considered failing. Its prior score, from March, was a 99.

On Sept. 15, 2016, the restaurant was handed a 40/U. At the time, general manager Thai Nguyen said many of the violations were because staff was closing down the lunch buffet for the day and the food wouldn't have been served.

After this last inspection, Nguyen said Ru San’s will no longer serve the lunch buffet in order to avoid mistakes happening when the restaurant is busy. According to a Friday report: raw tuna, California rolls and eel rolls were held on the buffet at 56, 90 and 69 degrees Fahrenheit respectively.

Nguyen said Monday that the restaurant is clean and he apologizes to customers, adding he believes canceling the buffet will fix any problems. Nguyen said he became the owner in 2014.

Ru San’s is independently owned and not affiliated with other restaurants with similar names.
