A 32-year-old Hall County man was jailed on multiple charges in connection to the rape of an acquaintance, officials said.

Mark Gibson of Alto allegedly raped and sodomized a woman Monday night in the 7500 block of Mud Creek Road in Alto, Hall County sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Scott Ware said Wednesday.

“Gibson disabled a vehicle in an attempt to prevent (the victim) from escaping,” Ware said.

The woman was left with visible marks on her neck from being restrained by Gibson, Ware said.

Gibson ultimately committed the alleged rape after following the woman inside the residence after she escaped the car, Ware said. She called 911 and Gibson was arrested despite resisting deputies’ attempts to handcuff him, Gibson said.

Gibson was booked into the Hall County jail on rape, aggravated sodomy, battery, false imprisonment and obstruction charges, Ware said.

No bond was issued. Gibson is expected to appear in court Nov. 17.
