Some folks in Sandy Springs will have to find a new grocery.

The Kroger at 8331 Roswell Road will close its doors on Oct. 25.

Kroger spokesman Felix B. Turner said in a statement that the store has “experienced declining sales and negative profit over an extended period of time.”

The store has existed at that location for more than 35 years. With the closure, 89 jobs will be impacted.

A press release from the company says that all employees from this Kroger will be considered for reassignment to other Kroger stores. Representatives from the grocer will meet with employees to discuss reassignments and additional options in the coming weeks, the release says.

Google Maps shows that there are 10 other Kroger stores within eight miles of the 8331 Roswell Road location.

Kroger says it “remains committed to the Atlanta area” and recently opened stores on Glenwood Avenue and Morosgo Way in the city.

Six soldiers were honored, each receiving Meritorious Service Medals, Thursday for heroic actions responding to the shooting at Fort Stewart. “One of the things I can say unequivocally is that the fast action of these soldiers — under stress and under trauma and under fire — absolutely saved lives from being lost,” U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll told reporters as the six soldiers stood near him Thursday. “They are everything that is good about this nation.” (Hyosub Shin/AJC)
