Johns Creek has announced a public ceremony for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at Newtown Park to formally open "The Wall That Heals," a 250-foot-long half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Speakers will include Maj. Genl. John King, U.S. Army National Guard and Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire commissioner; Lt. Col. Mike Mizell, president of the Johns Creek Veterans Association; Col. Rick White, president of the Georgia Veterans Hall of Fame; and Mayor Pro Tem Lenny Zaprowski. Music will be provided by the Mount Pisgah School Chorus and Georgia Sensations.

Johns Creek will be the permanent home of what had been a traveling exhibit of the nonprofit Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. The fund retired the wall after more than 10 years on the road, and in 2018 it accepted Johns Creek’s proposal and $80,000 bid to place the memorial at the Veterans Memorial Walk at Newtown Park.

The replica wall has 24 individual panels with the names of 58,000 American service personnel who died in the Vietnam War. Information: https://bit.ly/2PJWN8p
