A driver of a truck who tried to pass another pickup died Saturday morning in a three-vehicle collision in Cobb County, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the crash at 8:03 a.m. on Powder Springs Road near Green Drive in Marietta. A preliminary investigation indicates a blue 1995 Toyota T100 truck traveling northbound on Powder Springs Road in the right lane tried to overtake a black 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 that was in the left lane, according to Cobb County police.

As the Toyota moved from the right lane to the left lane, it clipped the right front bumper of the Dodge and began to rotate, Cobb police said. The Dodge crossed the center turn lane and entered the southbound lanes where it was hit on the passenger side by a 1998 red Dodge Ram 1500 truck pulling a trailer.

The driver of the Toyota, who police identified as 56-year-old Sobhi H. Terfas of Austell, was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where he died, Cobb police said. Canton resident Mario Perez Ramirez, 41, the driver of the 1998 Dodge, was not injured. His 15-year-old passenger was transported to Kennestone Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the 2015 Dodge, Marietta resident Alejandra N. Dorvil, 36, did not need medical attention, Cobb police said.
