The City of Roswell approved the use of golf carts on five new areas July 1. Drivers 16 and older who are licensed to operate the vehicles are now eligible to cruise down any public road with a posted speed limit of 25 mph or lower while maintaining this speed limit. Licensed drivers are also required to pay the city a $15 dollar vehicle registration fee every five years. In addition to certain multi-use paths around the city, here are the five areas of streets you can now take your licensed golf carts out for a spin:

Area 1: North of state Route 92 and Hardscrabble Road. Notable locales in Area 1 include the scenic Roswell Park and the Brookfield Country Club.

Area 2: North of state Route 92, south of Hardscrabble Road, west of state Route 9/120. Notable locales in Area 2 include Sweet Apple Park, popular for sporting activities, and the Roswell Public Library. The Roswell Cultural Arts Center is also accessible and often has shows and workshops available all year long.

Area 3: South of state Route 92, west of state Route 9/120. This includes Roswell's Canton Street, with a variety of restaurants and Roswell Square, where people pack in on the weekends to enjoy community art shows or spend time shopping and dining. Riverside Park, Waller Park, and the famous Chattahoochee Nature Park are also accessible.

Area 4: East of state Route 9/120, west of Old Alabama Road. Walk across the popular covered Vickery Creek Pedestrian Bridge, watch kayaks and canoes cruise by or enjoy the trails at Vickery Creek Park.

Area 5: East of Old Alabama Road. East Roswell Park is a great place to throw a frisbee around with family or friends on a hot summer day. Famous for organized sports, this park has baseball and soccer fields and a couple of basketball courts as well.

Where golf cart use will be prohibited: The use of golf carts is prohibited on any state route, park trails, streets with speed limits of 30 mph or higher, and areas with signs stating that the use of the vehicles is prohibited.
