The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a Decatur man who went overboard from the ninth deck of a cruise ship in the Bahamas, officials said.
Reco Scott, 32, “was observed jumping from a cabin balcony” about 4:53 a.m. Friday, Carnival Cruise Line spokeswoman Jennifer De La Cruz said in a statement.
At the time, the Carnival Liberty cruise ship was about 10 miles northwest of the Berry Islands in the Bahamas. The ship, which departed from Port Canaveral, Fla., was en route to Nassau, De La Cruz said.
“The ship’s command immediately turned the vessel around and began search procedures,” she said.
The Coast Guard is using a helicopter and a ship in the search for Scott, whose family has been notified of the situation.
“We extend our thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” De La Cruz said.
