• Sixteen middle school Latin students at Mt. Bethel Christian Academy earned medals on the National Classical Etymology Exam. Zoe Altizer, Reau Autera and Isabel Robertson earned gold medals. Hannah Chang, Brady Juliani, Sarah Grace Kimery, Clay Morgan, Drew Rubinacci, Daniel Servaes, and Elizabeth Shultz earned silver medals. Meg Blakeley, Isaac Burton, Cassi Curasi, Mackenzie Kahill, Hunter McCown, and Mattie Walker earned bronze medals. The National Classical Etymology Exam is sponsored by the National Junior Classical League and is designed to test a student's knowledge of Latin and Greek derivatives and their usage in the English language. Almost 5,000 students, in grades 6-12, participated in the exam nationwide. Lynne Segars, MBCA's Middle School Latin teacher, said, "Sixteen medals is a new school record at MBCA and I am excited for each of the students!"

• State School Superintendent Richard Woods has selected 64 Georgia students to his 2015 Student Advisory Council. Throughout the school year, these middle and high school students will meet with Woods to discuss the impact of state policies in the classroom. Student Advisory Council members will also discuss other issues related to education, and serve as the superintendent's ambassadors to their schools. Students selected from more than 1,000 applicants were chosen based on their essays focused on public education and ways their own educational experience could be improved. Students from North Georgia chosen include: Temi Adekunie, River Ridge High School, Cherokee; Kindle Anderson, Alpharetta High School, Fulton; Allison Fine, Lassiter High School, Cobb; Emily Howe, Heritage High School, Rockdale; Alexander Nichols, Lithia Springs Comprehensive High, Douglas; Harley Obsitnik, McIntosh High School, Fayette; Austin Aldridge, Bainbridge Middle School, Decatur; Joshua Garrison, Crews Middle School, Gwinnett; Elizabeth Hughes, E.T. Booth Middle School, Cherokee; and Joseph Hunter, Flat Rock Middle School, Fayette.

• Ten students from The Epstein School took first-place honors at the 2015 North Atlanta Jewish Students Technology Fair. Eighth-grader Isabel Berlin broken a record by becoming a six-time multimedia tech fair champion. These students who demonstrated their mastery of technology will go on to compete at the state competition, the 2015 Georgia Educational Technology Fair.

• Wheeler Center for Advanced Studies Magnet students Karan Achtani, Henrik Boecken, Alissa Ji and Paul Miloro achieved finalist ranking in the international High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling, in which student teams use math to present solutions to real-world modeling problems. The Wheeler team's solution was deemed one of the top 40 from more than 700 high school teams from around the world. The Marietta school's team problem required them to create a model solution for optimizing the movement of crowds out of a commuter train station to minimize the time it takes passengers to exit the train-platform complex.

• The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), James Waldrop Chapter, have named Whitewater Middle School social studies teacher Laura Kennedy "Outstanding American History Teacher" for 2015. As the chapter's winner, she represented Fayette County in the Georgia competition where she was chosen as the winner from more than 100 nominations of outstanding history teachers across the state.
