After a couple of days of relief from the sweltering heat — if you can call mid-90s relief — the mercury will again flirt with the 100-degree mark the rest of the week.
High temperatures will climb to 98 Thursday and Friday, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton. Those are close to the record marks of 99 (1948) and 98 (1980).
The forecast includes a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon, some of which could be strong, Minton said. Otherwise, expect partly cloudy skies. The chance of rain is 30 percent.
The weekend forecast calls for slightly cooler temperatures — 96 Saturday and 92 Sunday — along with a 30 percent chance of an afternoon shower.
Low temperatures through the weekend will dip to the middle 70s.
