Potbellied pigs, a domesticated version of the farm animal, can now be kept as pets in Brookhaven.

Only one pig is allowed at a time, they cannot weigh more than 200 pounds and they can only be kept at single-family homes or detached residential units. The ordinance also says the pigs must be spayed or neutered and vaccinated.

Potbellied pigs join a list of assorted pets allowed in Brookhaven, a city in north DeKalb County, after last week's unanimous City Council vote. The laws already allows bee hives and egg-producing chickens in addition to more traditional types of pets.
