Top students win Gwinnett school lottery

Feb 8, 2016

Nearly 400 Gwinnett County students hit the academic jackpot Monday.

The 376 students gained spots to enroll in the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology for the 2016-17 school year.

Gwinnett holds a lottery each year for students interested in attending what is frequently described as one of the nation’s best high schools. Its mean SAT score in 2015 was 1848, the highest of any Georgia public school. The school’s 2014 graduation rate is 99.4 percent, second best in the state among schools with more than 100 graduates.

More than 900 students applied for spots. The winning lottery numbers, along with the waiting list, were posted on the school's website.

Gwinnett changed the admissions requirements for incoming students. They must successfully complete an alegbra course to enroll in the school.
