Three Atlanta teachers were named Atlanta Public Schools’ teachers of the year today. And an Atlanta school counselor has been named the state Counselor of the Year.

  • Toomer Elementary gifted and talented teacher Jennifer Kraften is the elementary school teacher of the year.
  • King Middle special education teacher John Wingate is the middle school teacher of the year.
  • KIPP Atlanta Collegiate algebra teacher Jerry Kosoff is the high school teacher of the year.

One of the finalists will be named districtwide teacher of the year later this year.

On the state level, the Georgia School Counselors Association named Mary Lin Elementary counselor Alexandra Huguelet the 2016 Georgia School Counselor of the Year based on work in her previous job with Cobb County schools.

Huguelet will be honored during a ceremony in Macon next month.
