City Schools of Decatur

Decatur is an independent city school district that has attracted many families because students perform above the state and national averages on standardized tests at all grade levels. Each year City Schools of Decatur has ranked in the top ten districts in Georgia for SAT performance. Decatur High School has been named an AP Challenge and AP Merit school in Georgia. More than 70 percent of the teachers hold advanced degrees.

Decatur schools has about 4,200 students and a budget of $60 million.

Superintendent: David Dude

Came to Decatur after serving over 19 years in numerous capacities as an educator and school leader. He was chosen as superintendent after working most recently as chief operating officer of the 13,500-student Iowa City Community School District. Responsible for nearly all aspects of operational efficiency and effectiveness there, Dude oversaw infrastructure, technology and operational support. He designed and implemented a districtwide technology initiative, and he led the adoption of a 10-year plan, which included three new 500-student elementary schools and a new 1,500-student comprehensive high school.
