Outgoing Georgia School Superintendent John Barge has been named as a finalist for the top education job in Kansas.
Barge, who opted not to seek re-election to the Georgia office, is one of four candidates for Kansas Commissioner of Education. He will be interviewed in Topeka this week by the state school board.
Barge challenged incumbent Gov. Nathan Deal in the Republican primary but lost, leaving his future in leadership uncertain. He was a finalist for the top education job in Utah last month.
The Kansas school board expects to make a decision this month.
