An Atlanta area school took home top honors in a recent national automotive education contest.
Students who participated in the Quaker State “Best in Class Challenge” also found success last weekend at the annual Mecum Auction in Austin, Texas.
The top three schools from the competition were invited to Austin to witness their revamped Chevy Impalas cross the block and be auctioned off to the highest bidders.
Maxwell High School of Technology in Lawrenceville won First Place and took home $6,500. Second Place went to Satellite High School of Orlando, Fla., and Third Place went to Iredell-Statesville Schools Automotive Technology Center of Charlotte, N.C.
In addition to prizes awarded before the auction, all proceeds were donated to the schools as prize money.
Beginning in September, 26 schools from across the U.S. competed to be nominated for the “Best in Class Challenge.” The five finalist teams were judged on strict automotive criteria including engine presentation, cabin detailing and exterior finish.
