Gwinnett school honored for environmental work

March 9, 2016

State lawmakers honored a Gwinnett County elementary school Tuesday for its environmental efforts.

Pharr Elementary School has worked in recent years on several environmentally-friendly campaigns, such as recycling. The school is in contention for a federal Green Ribbon designation from the U.S. Department of Education.

Green Ribbon designations are awarded to schools that improve the health and wellness of the school and provide environmental education programs.

Education department officials will announce the Green Bay designation winners on Earth Day, April 22.
