Gwinnett County school board says charter school application needs more work

Gwinnett County school board members Thursday evening denied an application for a Korean-English dual language charter school.

The school board gave the applicants the options to revise its plans and try again.

School district officials said the proposed Yi Hwang Academy of Philosophy, Art and Science needed more work. Concerns with the application included:

“We find that there are significant concerns with the petition,” said Gwinnett school district administrator Steve Flynt.

The proposed school would serve kindergarten through fifth-graders with a focus in science, technology, engineering, the arts and math.
