A person was in custody Tuesday after shots were fired at a DeKalb County elementary school, police said.

The incident occurred at Ronald McNair Discovery Learning Academy at 216 2nd Avenue.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

“Shooter apprehended; all kids safe and accounted for,” interim Superintendent Michael Thurmond told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution just before 2 p.m.

The alleged gunman entered the school and talked to a clerk. The man, who was dressed in black and had an AK-47, surrendered peacefully after being confronted by police officers, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Parents can pick up their children at the Walmart at I-20 and Gresham Road.
