The U.S. Department of Education will give Georgia $16.6 million to improve low-performing schools.

Georgia is among 16 states that will get a share of $113 million to try and turn around “persistently lowest-achieving schools.”

From 2009 to 2011, the state got $57 million from the grant program, plus $104 million from the recession-related stimulus program.
