Georgia State University’s marching band will perform in next week’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The band will be one of a dozen bands to participate in the iconic parade that is seen by more than 3.5 million people in New York and watched by about 50 million people on television. The marching Panthers beat out hundreds of other bands for the coveted spot, and they raised more than $13,000 through crowdfunded donations to help cover travel expenses for the 2,000-mile trip to and from New York City.

Georgia State’s band also marched last year in the presidential inauguration parade for President Barack Obama, and it was also selected in 2013 as one of the top 10 college bands in the nation by the College Band Directors National Association.

The band has scheduled a final rehearsal for Friday night at the Georgia World Congress Center’s marshaling yard before departing for New York on Sunday afternoon.

Tune in to the parade around 11:15 a.m. on Thanksgiving to see the band in action.
