Georgia’s high school graduation rate jumped significantly last spring, according to new figures released by the Georgia Department of Education Monday.

The statewide average rose to 78.8 percent, up more than 6 percentage points. That is a considerable increase since the 2014 rate rose less than a fraction of a percentage point higher than the year before.

Only students who finish high school within four years are included in the rate, and schools must track students who leave to ensure they haven’t dropped out.
