Teachers across the state are expressing dismay over computer glitches that turned the Georgia Milestones into an ordeal for them and their students. The Milestones are Georgia’s new state exams introduced last year to replace the CRCTs.
Many systems went to online testing this year and it did not go well as capacity proved unequal to the challenge. Worse hit appeared to be Fulton County where many schools had repeated breakdowns that left kids and teachers frustrated.
In an essay, a Fulton teacher says the interruptions were so bad that scores should be tossed. The teacher writes, “By the time we finished that first day, my kids had missed their scheduled lunchtime, afternoon testers were stressing and relocated, I was nearly in tears, and the students were exhausted. My class was sent to eat, and my administration acknowledged I/we did the best we could under the circumstances and that it wasn’t our fault. I’m told other schools went through the same thing.”
