A Fulton County high school graduate who is an administrator in Boston Public Schools will return to become a new Fulton County assistant superintendent.

Doannie Tran, who earned a doctorate in educational leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, begins his new position in October. His job duties will include managing Fulton's new Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) high schools and leading a comprehensive review of the district's magnet strategy.

Fulton County School Superintendent Jeff Rose said, “Throughout his career in education, Dr. Tran has focused on innovation, with a commitment to delivering results. We look forward to the wealth of knowledge and varied experiences he will bring to Fulton County Schools.”

Tran, assistant superintendent for academics and professional learning in Boston, graduated from Fulton's North Springs Charter High School and earned a degree in chemistry as a Foundation Fellow the University of Georgia. He was middle and high school science teacher in California and Boston in the Teach for America (TFA) program and later joined the TFA staff and launched the organization's Massachusetts region, where he built their partnership with Boston University.

He earned a doctorate in educational leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2015.
