Fulton County schools' Pre-Kindergarten program is expected to grow next year, education leaders say.

Currently, there are 77 classes and district officials expect to see that increase by four next school year. The 77 classes are in 42 schools, serving approximately 1,678 Pre-K students.

The Pre-K program funding application for the 2016-17 school year, discussed at a school board meeting Tuesday, will include a request of funding for 81 Pre-kindergarten classrooms, with the total number of students served in Pre-K increased to 1,750.

Based on the Gov. Nathan Deal’s proposed state budget, Fulton anticipates funds to increase to approximately $5.88 million for 2016-17 school year for the Pre-K program. The anticipated funds would continue to reflect a 180-day student calendar, 190 teacher workdays and 182 workdays for paraprofessionals.
