Four Georgia high school students, including one from Cobb County, were among the 2016 presidential scholars identified by the U.S. Department of Education Wednesday.

Jose L. Espinel, of Pope High School in Cobb, was named in the career and technical education field.

Farther from Atlanta, the winners were Olugbenga J. Ojo-Osagie, Lovejoy High School in Hampton; Markeisha J. Wagner, Carver High School in Columbus, and Victoria Canal Tinius, (no school listed) of Sautee-Nacoochee, who won in the arts.

The 52-year-old program recognizes distinguished graduating high school seniors. The arts category was added in 1979, and career and technical education was added last year.
