Former state superintendent candidate gets schools advocacy job

Former Decatur school board member Valarie Wilson has been hired to run the Georgia School Boards Association.

Wilson, a Democrat who ran unsuccessfully for state school superintendent, served as president of the school boards association in 2012-13. Her resume includes terms as executive director of the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership, Inc. and director of both the Human Services Department and the Office of Aging in Fulton County.

Current GSBA executive director Sis Henry, in the job for 14 years, will retire on June 30.
