Emory board of trustees elects new chair

Emory University’s board of trustees elected alumnus and business executive John Morgan to serve as its new chairman.

Morgan owns Morgan Timber, a private timber and real estate management and development company, as well as South Coast Commercial, a real estate investment firm, both based in Bluffton, S.C. He also serves as board chairman for the Fortune-500 firm Plum Creek Timber Company, was a founder of INVESCO Capital Management, a global money management firm, and, established the nonprofit Mill Creek Foundation to serve his hometown of Swainsboro, Ga.

Morgan follows outgoing chairman Ben Johnson III, who is retiring as chairman after holding the position since 2000. Morgan has been a trustee at Emory since 1996.
