The DeKalb County School District will be the second metro Atlanta school district to test lead levels in drinking water.
A press conference will be held at district headquarters at 10 a.m. Tuesday to discuss testing.
The news comes months after Atlanta Public Schools officials said they found lead above federal limits in water sources at 25 of 60 tested schools.
About 100 of the district’s 137 school buildings were built prior to 1986, putting them at a higher lead risk. No Georgia law requires testing water for lead in schools or day care centers.
Aside from Atlanta, lead was recently discovered by school districts in cities including Chicago, Milwaukee, New York City and Washington, D.C.
