Cobb County schools had the most instances of disorderly conduct and fighting among students in the 2014-15 school year in metro Atlanta, according to Georgia Department of Education.

There were 19,010 reported incidents which resulted in disciplinary action in Cobb, while DeKalb had the second-highest figure among metro Atlanta schools, with 15,069, based on the latest data compiled by the state DOE.

Disorderly conduct is defined by the state as “any act that substantially disrupts the orderly conduct of a school function, substantially disrupts the orderly learning environment, or poses a threat to the health, safety, and/or welfare of students, staff, or others.”

Fighting is defined as “mutual participation in a fight involving physical violence where there is no one main offender and no major injury. This does not include verbal confrontations, tussles, or other minor confrontations.”

Disorderly conduct and fighting are among a list of other disciplinary incidents in schools in metro Atlanta compiled in a searchable database by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as part of a recent report on school security.
