A Clayton County economics teacher was honored by the Georgia Council on Economic Education for contributions to the economic education of students there.
Cary Hargett of Morrow High School was named 2016 Georgia Economic Teacher of the Year. He received a plaque and a $1,000 prize at the group’s annual luncheon May 23 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.
According to a district release, award winners must be teachers of public or independent schools in Georgia teaching a course in economics of integrating economics into other courses at any grade level and demonstrate a knowledge of economics and a willingness to teach it to his or her students using different methods and creativity.
He is the second Clayton County teacher to receive the award in its 30-year history.
