Atlanta school Superintendent Meria Carstarphen is proposing closing several under-attended elementary schools and consolidating them with other schools.
The move is not without its critics, who include parents who are concerned about empty buildings in their neighborhoods, or moving students from poorer performing schools into better performing schools.
The Atlanta Board of Education is scheduled to give Carstarphen a yes or no to go forward with the consolidations Monday, March 6, at its regularly scheduled meeting.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s education blogger, Maureen Downey, spoke with Carstarphen in February and asked her questions about everything from the support she is getting to the coming school closings.
The AJC will be there to cover the meeting Monday at 6 p.m.
